It can easily feel overwhelming to figure out how to get started with TestLogger Collector, but we are here to help you. Collector has quite a few things to consider before you can start logging the data, so please be patient and follow the instructions.

If you are new to Testlogger, then Check out the TestLogger concept and tool overview before starting!

Based on experience, it is good to reserve around three hours for the installation and configuration process.

Installation & configuration

In general installation process is as follow.

  1. Hardware installation: It's recommended to spend some time to install the equipment to the car to make nice wiring and good location for the sensors.
  2. Device configuration: Proper configuration enables good quality data.
  3. Test run for data check: Validate your equipment installation and configuration with a system validation check.

Collector operation

After device installation the Collector operation in daily use is very simple. Typical (and pretty much only) actions users want to do is to log data, transfer the logged data to computer and modify the configuration.

Log data

Device gets powered via receiver channels and automatically starts logging if memory card is installed and configuration is valid.

By default Collector doesn't log data if it is powered via USB port. This setting can be changed in the configuration.

Transfer data

Our recommendation is to transfer the data right after the run, but system allows you log data for all day and transferring data to computer after the day is completed. When you transfer data right after each run, then you can create runs and write down all comments and setup changes when you still remember the details.

Data can be transferred via USB port or directly from the memory card. USB bandwith is limited to 1 megabyte per second, so transfer directly from the memory card is much faster method if you need to transfer multiple files at a time.

Connector instructions have more information available on how data transfer works.

Analysing data

Analysing the collected data is of course the key part in the operation and it's also the fun part. Getting started with data analysing is quite easy, but it takes time to master it. Take your time and keep things simple. After you gain more experience and understand what you want from the data, then you increase the complexity with own math channels etc.

Analyzer instructions gives more details on how to get started with data analysing.

What next?

Now you have the basics in place to collect data, so what next? We recommend to read more insights from Articles and learn different techniques how to analyse the data. World is full of great literature to understand the theories behind the data and how to utilise it.

Remember to enjoy the hobby and don't let data to be your master! We hope TestLogger can help you to get more out of your driving and making it even more interesting as you have new tool to utilise.
