Tips & Tricks
It easier to work if you keep several TestLogger browser tabs open at same time. For example one for session analyze and one for run input.
Archive all tires after outdoor season and activate only needed indoor tires from archive. Vice versa when going from indoors to outdoors. Now you don't have too long list of tires when entering runs. Same goes for setups.
Use cases
These use cases or examples explain the method how to work. These don't explain the exact details how to use the tool. Please refer other parts of the user guide if need guidance about different functionalities.
Practice day without Mylaps Practice
Major part of the tracks around the World don't have Mylaps practice available, so the runs must be entered manually. Here is an example how to do it. Here it is assumed that user can access laptimes, but needs manual work to transfer those to TestLogger.
Create a session. It is a good practice to think before going to the track what is the goal for the testing. For example you may want to focus on tires, shocks or just keeping the car same and try different driving styles. When you write this information beforehand to the session information then it's easier to give right feedback regarding the focus area during the day.
Enter first run of the day. After visiting the track for the first time you can start entering the runs to TestLogger. How to do it manually? Quick way is to enter the summary. It means you need only total time, amount of laps, best laptime and your evaluation how much mistakes you did in the run. If you can access TestLogger from the timing computer, then you can easily copy-paste the numbers. What if the timing computer doesn't have access to TestLogger? You could take a photo of the laptimes with your phone and use that to enter the run data or just take notes to real paper.
Check the run result
Session analyze.
Complete the session. After the day is over it's good practice to write a summary about the day to Session Notes.

Using tags
Tags were introduced in 2.0 and there is lot's of different ways how to utilize those. Here is one example. If you do speed controller testing. Tag the runs, sessions and notes with speed controller name. Then you get one listing with all data related to speed controller testing. Also you can write your comments and findings to notes. It helps you later on to make changes. For example you can write down your own experience how different parameters effect the car.
How to setup Mylaps Practice?
Check you have correct timing equipment. You need to have Mylaps timing decoder with very small LED screen(For RC car racing e.g. RC4) and timing loop installed. Here is nothing special if you've had races on your track. The equipment and setup is the same. Only exception is that you don't need a computer to run Mylaps Practice.
Data connection for the decoder. Mylaps Practice works on the Internet, so the decoder needs to have a permanent internet connection. Some tracks have e.g. ADSL connection or other permanent Internet connection. Some tracks even have internal Ethernet network built, which makes the set up very easy. Bu there is plenty of tracks without Internet connection. It doesn't need to be fast, but it needs to be available whenever someone is at the track. The connection can be e.g. 256kbps 3G connection with unlimited data plan. For example in Finland you can get that kind of connection for 2,90 euros per month. Additionally you need an Ethernet router (depends on the connection type). With 3G connection you might get 3G USB modem included in the price, then just buy Ethernet router with 3G USB modem support. Cheap ones costs around 40 to 50 euros. For example TP-Link makes cheap routers which are ok for the price.
Install the hardware Install your decoder by the instructions. Install router and 3G connection as instructed by the manufacturer. You can check with your laptop that the Internet connection is working ok. Connect the Mylaps decoder with Ethernet cable to the LAN side of your router. Last thing to do is connecting the decoder to Internet. You may use automatic network settings for the decoder if you want the easiest way to do things. Alternatively you can set everything manually but then you need know your LAN side settings and DNS server from your ISP.
Setup Mylaps Practice. First create an organization account on Mylaps website. After login go to Practice tracks and then “Click here to register a decoder and configure a track.” For the registration you need the activation string from decoder. Find it from your decoder menu (Can't remember the path). Enter the necessary details and you are good to go.
